Namaste!
Feeling burned out, dysregulated, or like you're stuck in a state of overwhelm and anxiety? Are you trying to find a version of yourself that moves beyond cultural expectations and systems that no longer feel aligned for you? If you're exhausted from masking, code-switching, or constantly being "on," you're not alone — and you don’t have to navigate it alone. I’m Christopher "Topher" Scott (he/him), a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (supervised by Lesley Lanier Smith, LPC-S), a certified yoga instructor (RYT-200), Reiki Master, and a functional nutrition trainee.
I’m passionate about collaborating with LGBTQ+ and BIPOC individuals and couples navigating stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, identity, and life transitions. My approach explores the intersection of mind, body, spirit, collective consciousness, and heart. I help clients bolster resilience and improve regulation, explore incremental change, and restore leadership to Self.
I draw from evidence-based modalities and frameworks, including Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Polyvagal Theory, Functional Nutrition, and Pranayama/Yoga to support holistic healing and transformation. My goal is to offer a trauma-informed, compassionate, and affirming space for growth, embodiment, and empowerment.

Areas of Focus
I welcome and support individuals navigating a wide range of experiences, and I hold particular specialities in the following areas. These are not just diagnoses—they are human experiences deserving of care, curiosity, and compassion. Whether you're seeking support for emotional regulation, identity exploration, life transitions, or healing from trauma, you're not alone here.
Types of Therapy
I draw from a range of evidence-based and holistic approaches to meet you where you are—honoring your story, your body, and your capacity to heal. My work is rooted in both modern clinical frameworks and time-honored somatic practices, allowing for an integrative experience that supports mind, body, spirit, and community. Depending on your goals and preferences, we may draw from:
Person-Centered Therapy
A non-directive, compassionate approach that honors your inner wisdom and prioritizes empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
A structured practice combining mindfulness meditation and gentle movement to reduce stress, increase awareness, and cultivate present-moment resilience.
Polyvagal Theory
A nervous system-based lens that helps us understand how safety, connection, and survival responses shape our thoughts, behaviors, and emotions.
Cognitive Processing Therapy
A structured trauma-focused approach that helps you reframe unhelpful beliefs and reduce the impact of distressing memories.
Narrative Therapy
A collaborative and empowering method that helps you reshape the stories you hold about yourself, centering your voice and values.
Internal Family Systems
A parts-based approach that helps you understand and harmonize the different inner voices or “parts” within you, especially those shaped by protection, reactivity, and trauma.

What is Sacred Kin Counseling and who do you serve?
Sacred Kin Counseling is a holistic, culturally affirming therapy practice that supports queer, Latinx, BIPOC, and other marginalized individuals and couples. The practice offers virtual counseling that blends evidence-based mental health care with mind-body-spirit healing practices. Topher Scott (he/him), LPC-Associate, is the founder and primary counselor. He is supervised by Lesley Smith, LPC-S, and specializes in stress, burnout, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and spiritual integration.
Are sessions virtual or in-person?
Most sessions are held virtually for accessibility and convenience. In-person walking therapy may be available on a case-by-case basis with a signed waiver.
What types of therapy does Topher offer, and what treatment approaches does he use?
Topher offers individual, couples, family, and group counseling. His approach blends evidence-based psychotherapy with holistic, somatic, and yogic practices to support deep transformation and nervous system regulation. He draws from multiple frameworks, including Person-Centered Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Polyvagal Theory, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). His work is non-pathologizing, trauma-informed, and culturally affirming.
What happens during and after a free consultation?
A consultation or clarity call is a no-pressure, informal meeting held via Zoom where you’ll briefly discuss what you’re seeking. Topher will discuss his approach to practice and answer any questions you may have to help you make an informed decision about moving forward with him as your therapist. If you both feel aligned, you can then schedule an initial intake session, complete onboarding paperwork, and access the secure client portal to begin your therapy journey.
Does Topher accept insurance?
Topher is not in-network with any insurance providers. However, he can provide superbills for clients wishing to seek out-of-network reimbursement.
What does it mean that Topher takes a non-pathologizing approach?
Topher doesn’t view clients as broken or inherently disordered. He generally believes symptoms are adaptations to experiences and circumstances. His goal is to support balance, flexibility, and authentic healing, not to impose labels or pathologize.
How do ancestral wisdom and spirituality show up in sessions?
For those interested, Topher can integrate spiritual tools such as Reiki, ritual, guided visualization, and ancestral reflection. He honors each client’s unique cultural and spiritual traditions as part of the healing process.
